Uterine fibroid

Uterine fibroid or myoma is the most common problem now in women in the reproductive stage. Most commonly women below the age of 30years face the problem and the incidence of myoma reduces when age increases. There are also rare case incidences of myoma before puberty and after menopause.
Thus Uterine fibroid grow due to the excessive Estrogen hormone, which undergoes cycle during the menstrual cycle. It is also seen during pregnancy period.

The common symptoms due to uterine fibroid are:
• Menstrual irregularity- like menorrahagia, polymenorrhoea, meteraggia. There would be excessive flow of menstrual bleeding, the cycle would be irregular.
• Infertility- Uterine fibroid itself does not produce infertility. The fibroid prevents the entry of sperm into uterine cavity, and some kind would block the fallopian tubes prevent the egg to enter the right place for fertilization.
• Abdominal pain- It occurs when the degeneration of fibroid advances and the pain would be acute when the peduculated fibroid got twisted.



Uterine fibroid based on the place of origin they are named as
• Sub mucous.
• Intramural
• Sub serous
• Interstitial
• Peritoneal- It occurs rarely. Sometimes fibroid present very near to the peritoneal region get detached and would get attached to the nearby organ forming ‘parasitic fibroid’.
